HELLO
WELCOME
Thank you for taking the time to enter my world.
Art is truly subjective, so I'm very aware that my world won't be a place where everyone wishes to dwell. Like most artists I wrestle with this myself. Using my work to describe my own experience of The Universe. Or, is my work The Universe itself, of which I'm born from, and a product of. Sometimes it's unclear, and blurry, as to whether I produce work from within, or whether the work was always there, and I'm merely a physical projection, or mouthpiece, to birth something which already existed invisibly. Thus allowing the art to be "heard".
In a world which is becoming increasingly effective at capturing, portraying, and replicating "reality", I'm becoming increasingly less interested in doing so myself. Although my artistic origins stem from being "a good little drawer" and strong figurative painter, I find myself no longer concerned with illustrating things that already exist, and more fascinated with exploring the experience of "being".
It's hard to know when a painting is "finished". I don't really believe in finality. Only changes in state, and alternating roles of narrator and navigator. The Universe attempting to describe itself through the human experience, and the human experience trying to define this symbiotic relationship. My work is a joyous, and often frustrating, concoction of mark making and colour exploration, but the paintings are complete when they tell me so. Then they softly speak their names, and who am I to argue or question these titles.

ABOUT
THE ARTIST
Paul Tatlow is an artist/painter, born in a small village in Kent, between Canterbury and Dover. He attended Dover Grammar School For Boys before studying Art & Design at Kent Institute of Art and Design (KIAD). Then, after securing a place at The University of The West of England (UWE) to study Fine Art at degree level, he deferred this place for a year to live and work in Australia, and travel across Canada.
After 3yrs of self indulgence and self exploration in UWE, Bristol, a number of his creative passions overlapped. Whilst still maintaining a love for art, his life-long fervour for music became a focus. Band life, and musicality, saw a career path forge in the music industry, resulting in 20yrs in the business. Moving from the global brand "Virgin" to being involved in one of The UK's biggest chains of independent record stores, he found himself in the Welsh capital city of Cardiff.
Another career departure now sees him in an entirely different field altogether. Paul is now very well known, and respected, in the industry of Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP). This is a form of cosmetic tattooing that addresses hair loss by replicating the look of a shaved head. He has built up a very successful business in Alter Ego Hair Clinic, which has finally allowed him the time and space to return to his creative passion, as a commercial artist and painter.
